10 Months

Ezra at 10 months

I can't believe he is ten months old. That means he's almost a year! Weird! A look at the past month:

Loves
  • Junk food (suckers, cookies, etc.)
  • Bananas, strawberries, Cheerios, chicken nuggets, and Sloppy Joes (things I have found he'll eat more than a couple bites of)
  • Other babies and kids
  • CRAWLING! Which I actually love, too. He wears himself out and no more crying because I leave the room!
  • Baths with his bath toys, especially his little red boat
  • Mirrors
  • His mama
  • Carrying things in his mouth
  • Stealing food from Mom and Dad
  • Going to bed (sometimes)
  • Hitting....
  • Pushing the button on the X Box
  • Baby Einstein
  • Putting things in people's mouths and taking them back out, over and over
  • Playing with the door stop
  • Swinging. He cries when I take him off.
  • YELLING!!! He can yell SO LOUD.

Doesn't Like
  • Going to bed (sometimes)
  • Being taken away from mommy when he's tired
  • Putting on clothes
  • Having his face wiped
  • Teething (obviously)
He had his first haircut and his first Halloween. Man, I love this kid. I think this is my favorite age so far.

9 Months

Ezra at 9 months

A look at Ezra this past month

Weight: 17.8 lbs (15th percentile)
Height: 26.9" (5th percentile)
Head circumference: 17.75" (50th percentile)

Loves:

  • Fruit (especially strawberries and bananas), sweet stuff, and food in general. He's kind of over the whole puree thing.
  • Baths (still)
  • Animals
  • New people and new things
  • Lights (still)
  • Getting up on hands and knees/feet and scooting a little.
  • His mommy. We've got a mama's boy.
  • Baby Einstein. It's my saving grace.
  • Mirrors
  • Other babies
  • Putting everything in his mouth.
  • Being tickled
  • Ikea
  • Peeing every time I open his diaper.
  • Gargling liquids and then spitting them out.
Hates
  • Changing his diaper
  • Changing clothes
  • Having things taken away from him
  • Being left alone
  • Being tired and going to bed
  • Most vegetables
There are pros and cons to the new routine. It is nice to know about when Ezra will be tired and how long I have to do whatever. But, we are slaves to it. He is no fun at church (during nap time) and since he goes to bed so early, we have to get a sitter any time we want to do things in the evening, or put up with a really fussy baby.

8 months

Ezra at 8 months (September 7th)

This month we moved to another apartment (we like it better and it's cheaper, although it's in the same complex) and made another trip to Pendleton to meet Uncle Kody (my brother) for the first time. Kody has been in Africa for 3 1/2 years and came home to visit for a while. I was scared to drive 8 1/2 hours straight alone with a baby, but he was an angel! It was pretty much like driving by myself. At 8 months:
  • LOVES his solid food. He prefers it over milk (boo). He LOVES fruit now, too. Especially bananas and strawberries, though most of it ends up in his lap or on the floor. He also loves baby snacks that he can grab, like "baby cheetos" (the little corn puff snacks).
  • He got his two top teeth.
  • He is getting up on hands and feet every once in a while. It's obvious he really wants to get moving!
  • He is sleep trained!!! Ezra was making us get up and put his binky back in A LOT through the night. We decided it was time to let him cry a little. We started a bed time routine of a bath, reading books, saying prayers, and laying him down awake. We also started using a white noise app on my old iPod touch. It took him a couple days to catch on and now he does great. He learned to put his own binky back in. We "sprinkled" his crib with binkies for good measure, too. He now goes to sleep at about 7:30 pm and sleeps til about 7 the next morning. It is amazing.
  • He was sick for the first time. That was not fun AT ALL. Very stuffy nose for like two weeks. Sick babies are so sad.
  • He sits up completely unsupported.

7 Months

Ezra at 7 months (August 7th)

We've had a busy month! We went home to Pendleton, Oregon and Twin Falls, Idaho, which means we spent most of this month away from home. Our little guy still behaved like an angel!

  • He's eating like a champ, twice a day. He has started eating fruit and has been more picky about it. He has tried bananas, peaches, nectarines, mandarin oranges, and applesauce. He took to bananas very easily but the rest he didn't like at first. The only other fruit he's sticking with is the applesauce.
  • He LOVES banana mum mums (rice biscuits).
  • He likes apple juice. With all these new foods he's been trying, he's had some constipation issues. Apple juice works like a charm and he thinks it's great.
  • He has his two bottom teeth and is working on the two top teeth. He doesn't seem to be any fussier, but that can still change!
  • He is moving like crazy! He definitely can't be left alone for long. He rolls wherever he wants and grabs whatever he wants. These are the times that swing and chair seat belts were made for (even if he's asleep). Lots of close calls have been had....
  • He had his first fall off the ottoman. Bad mom award.
  • He is sleeping without a swaddle. He gets so sweaty and rolls around so much that we felt it was time to just stop swaddling. He doesn't sleep as well without it but I have hope he will learn to. We know he prefers to sleep on his side now.
  • He has lifted himself up on all fours a couple times and has been trying really hard to will himself forward. He will be crawling soon!
  • He had his first long car trip. We drove 8 1/2 hours straight to Pendleton and he did great! We didn't have to make any special stops for him or anything.

6 months

A month late, but here it is! Ezra at 6 months:

It has been a busy month!
  • At his 6 month check up he weighed 14.12 pounds (5th percentile), was 25.6" long (10th percentile), and had a head circumference of 17.2" (50th percentile). Hopefully his body can catch up with his head soon!
  • He's a pro at eating. He has had carrots, squash, sweet potatoes, peas, green beans, and avocado. The only thing he didn't like was the avocados and the squash took a second try.
  • He loves to go swimming! We go swimming a couple times a week, at least. Ezra is always happy when we are swimming.
  • He is getting more mobile. He doesn't roll with complete ease yet but he rotates (as evident in the photo above). We've had some close calls.
  • He got his first tooth! He likes to chew on our fingers and at his check-up I felt something hard in there. The doctor opened up his mouth and sure enough, there was his first tooth! We had no idea it was even close. I guess it didn't bug him too much.

5 months

This last month has been a big one for Ezra. A lot of changing and growing!

  • He likes to grab his feet when we change his diaper/give him a bath.
  • He is eating solids! We tried rice cereal a few times and he just spit it out. We gave him mashed potatoes which he actually fed himself, though most of it ended up in his lap. So we've started spoon feeding pureed veggies and he does great at it!
  • He went swimming for the first time and LOVED every second! Even when he was shivering cold, he was smiling and laughing and squawking.
  • He was a champ when he got his shots. He screamed when they went in but was back to his smiley happy self immediately after.
  • He LOVES to smile! Smiles are coming easier and easier these days.
  • He sticks everything in his mouth. He has toys that won't fit in his mouth and that makes him furious.
  • He still likes looking at lights!
  • He likes other babies and will smile at them and talk to them.
  • He does crunches. He also arches his back just for fun.
  • He says consonants and often says mama. Just not on purpose.
  • He likes seeing himself in the mirror and always smiles.
  • He grabs whatever is in reach. We are learning to clear a radius around him now. Some things he has grabbed are a full cup of water, plates full of dinner, and the sacrament tray. Luckily, we've avoided disaster so far....

4 Months!

So I'm a little behind, but Ezra turned 4 months old on May 7th! Here is what was up with our little guy:

  • At his 4 month check-up (which was today because the doctor has been out of town) he weighed 13.7 lbs (5th percentile), was 24 1/4" long (5th percentile), and had a head circumference of 16.4" (25th percentile). He's a little guy with a big head! I predict a growth spurt soon, though.
  • He can use his hands very well! He loves to grab, scratch, pinch, and just explore with them.
  • He loves his swing. When we can't get him to sleep, it works every time. He also loves watching the mobile.
  • He still loves to be swaddled. Those hands can really get in the way.
  • He loves bath time!
  • He is very happy and talkative
  • He sleeps through the night. He usually needs his binky to be re-inserted once or twice.
  • He's hot-blooded. He gets sweaty really easy and doesn't mind the cold too much.
  • He still loves lights.
  • He has started grabbing his feet and can pinch REALLY HARD with his toes!
  • He loves to suck on his hand. He sometimes gets his whole fist in his mouth.
  • His hands are the focus of everything he does. He watches them, he holds his own hands, he sucks on them, and he curses them when they take his pacifier. He is really good at grabbing what he wants, which means mommy and daddy have to pay attention to what he can reach!
  • He's a champ at tummy time and doesn't mind it at all (unless he's tired). He enjoys new perspectives!

Ezra at 3 Months

Ezra is 3 months old! I don't want to forget all the little things about our little guy, so here are some Ezra facts.

Likes:
  • When mommy sings to him
  • Talking (being talked to and talking back). The best is when he talks with his mouth full.
  • TV
  • Yellow. He is fascinated with and tries to grab anything that is yellow, especially the Warning sign in his car seat, the yellow tag on his bag of diapers, and the lion on his bouncy chair.
  • His pacifier
  • Touching his cheeks with his feet (with some help from Mommy and Daddy)
  • Cameras. You can't get him to look away!
  • Lights. Pretty typical but he will stare and stare.

Dislikes:
  • His car seat
  • Being over-tired
  • Having a wet or dirty diaper
  • Tummy time, but he's getting better!

He's a pretty easy baby! More random facts:
  • He has really started reaching for things and grabbing them. He's a champ at getting things to the side of him, but it still learning how to get those things above him.
  • Tummy time isn't so bad anymore, especially when we do "the Superman." He is fascinated when we "fly" him from room to room.
  • He does something that Tom calls "satelliting." It's looks like he's trying to get an itch on the back of his head. He moves his head from side to side like he just can't take everything in fast enough!
  • He is drooling. He especially drools when he is on his tummy.
  • He bites! Luckily, only when I stick my finger in his mouth. He doesn't just suck on it, he actually bites it. Sometimes hard.
  • He smiles a lot. He will smile when we just look at him. The best is when he's all swaddled up and all we can see are his eyes squinting.
  • He's sleeping in his crib now! Sometimes mommy has to reinsert the binky in the middle of the night (anywhere from 1-5 times....) but he usually goes right back to sleep. He will wake up in the morning anywhere from 5:30-7:30.
  • He likes his bath and pees out of the tub every single time. Luckily, he hasn't peed on mommy and daddy for a long time!
  • Every once in a while, he'll let out a yell. It's usually when we're somewhere noisy. It always surprises us.
  • He eats too much. He spits up a lot because he doesn't know when to stop. Mommy has to decide when he's done and just let him be mad for a few seconds until he realizes he's full.
  • He has started laughing, he's just got to figure it out a bit more. Sometimes he really wants to laugh and all he can do is a loud sigh. He's getting there!

I will add to this as I think of more! Sorry if it bores you; I just don't want to forget anything.

Now, some pictures!

Look at those blue eyes!

Newborn

I forgot to add to his "newborn pictures," Ezra pooped in daddy's hands. He was sitting in Tom's hand when we heard a really loud fart (the kind that echoes in a cupped hand) and that nice 'waterfall' sound that breastfed babies make when they poop. So funny.
